At SEM Haven, we are proud to represent the Eden Alternative, an approach to long-term senior care that creates energy, vitality, and a love of life. The Eden Alternative was created by Dr. William Thomas, a Harvard-educated physician, in 1991 with the goal of eliminating the three plagues of long-term care institutions: loneliness, helplessness, and boredom.
We believe that senior care facilities should fill their residents’ lives with joy and spontaneity. For that reason, we fill our facilities with life including a sprawling outdoor garden to help keep residents engaged and active, cats and dogs in designated areas of our facilities, and regular activities designed to combat boredom. Our goal is to give our residents everything they had during their lives before they moved into SEM Haven, so they feel at home and excited about living with us.
