Community Update March 21, 2020
SEM Haven Community Update | March 21, 2020
With so many changes occurring, sometimes by the hour, we want to be a resource for you. Please find a letter from Jessica Hall, Executive Director.
As many of you know, SEM Haven has been fully restricting visitation with the only exception being end of life situations, since Friday, March 13. Select vendors still allowed to enter the facility are restricted to those “essential to operation”; this includes but is not limited to delivery drivers bringing in food/supplies, lab/x-ray and hospice staff. All persons, including staff members, who enter the building are required to complete a screening procedure.
As of Saturday, March 14, we were required to stop communal dining and group activities and implement social distancing. SEM Haven’s staff is getting creative and holding small group activities of 10 or less while maintaining social distancing in an effort to support the socialization and well-being of our residents.
With many businesses being required to close or stop services and our residents having less freedom to move throughout the facility; we have created some temporary positions to assist with activities, housekeeping/disinfecting, and virtual communication for our residents and families. We believe this will not only help improve our resident’s quality of life, but it is a way for us to help members of the community who are in need of jobs temporarily until businesses re-open.
We are currently providing meals to staff on all shifts as a way to say thank you for their hard work and dedication to our residents and each other. Our residents and staff are very grateful to all who have donated puzzles, pens/paper, crafts, and magazines. The outreach from our Milford Community, volunteers and resident’s family members have been extremely uplifting. We are so appreciative of resident family members who have reached out with positive feedback and encouraging words. Your trust and confidence in our team are motivating and truly inspire all of us to keep pushing forward.
Please remember to stay home, wash your hands frequently and help to reduce the spread of this virus. We are hopeful that we will see this pass quickly so we can once again open our home to families, visitors, volunteers and vendors.
Be safe and stay healthy,
Jessica Hall
